Glossary of Key Terms

Beige — The Spiral Dynamics value system associated with survival intelligence: pure instinctual response, biological functioning, and sensory aliveness.

Blue — The Spiral Dynamics value system associated with order intelligence: devotion, discipline, purpose, sacrifice, and transcendent loyalty.

Developmental Grief — The genuine loss that accompanies every developmental transcendence. Grief Tending honors these losses so that the gifts of previous stages remain accessible.

Developmental Grief Tending™ — A Luminous facilitation practice for creating containers where the losses of developmental transitions can be named, felt, honored, and integrated. One of the Three Pillars of Transcend-and-Include Facilitation.

Dissolution — In holonic theory, the pathology in which a higher-level holon loses organizational coherence and lower-level holons are released without their integrating context. In developmental terms, a form of regression.

Domination — In holonic theory, the pathology in which a higher-level holon suppresses the legitimate autonomy of the holons it contains. In developmental terms, the pattern of transcend-without-include.

Enfoldment — The Luminous term for healthy development: each new stage embraces and preserves everything that came before, rather than replacing it. Contrasted with development-as-ascent.

First Tier — In Spiral Dynamics, the value systems from Beige through Green. Each First Tier system tends to believe its perspective is the correct one and cannot fully appreciate the gifts of other systems.

Gift Archaeology — The systematic practice of excavating, naming, honoring, and embodying the permanent gifts of every developmental stage before inviting movement to a new stage. One of the Three Pillars.

Gift Archaeology Protocol™ — The structured Luminous method for identifying, honoring, and re-embodying the unique contributions of each developmental stage.

Green — The Spiral Dynamics value system associated with connection intelligence: empathic attunement, egalitarian values, ecological sensitivity, and the honoring of multiple perspectives.

Holarchy — A nested hierarchy of holons in which each level is both autonomous and participatory. Healthy development is holarchic: each new level preserves and depends upon the integrity of every prior level.

Holon — A term coined by Arthur Koestler for an entity that is simultaneously a whole in itself and a part of a larger whole. Central metaphor for understanding developmental stages.

Inclusion Body Scan™ — A somatic practice in which participants systematically scan for the bodily presence of earlier developmental stages, noticing which feel alive and accessible versus suppressed or disowned.

Inclusion Failure — Any instance in which a developmental transition results in the loss, suppression, or abandonment of capacities that were available at an earlier stage.

Inclusion Failure Diagnostics™ — A systematic Luminous method for recognizing when development has gone wrong, identifying specific gaps in inclusion, and providing protocols for retroactive repair.

Luminous Developmental Canon™ — The integrated body of frameworks, practices, and assessment tools developed by Luminous Prosperity Inc. and published by Holarchical Holdings LLC.

Luminous Holonics™ — The Luminous framework for understanding and working with holarchic structures in individual, relational, and organizational development.

Object (Kegan) — In Robert Kegan's constructive-developmental theory, a structure of meaning-making that the person can see, examine, and reflect upon. What has been made object becomes a tool in the person's repertoire.

Orange — The Spiral Dynamics value system associated with achievement intelligence: strategic thinking, scientific inquiry, individual excellence, and measurable mastery.

Premature Complexity — The developmental pathology of inviting someone to engage with levels of complexity significantly beyond their current center of gravity, producing mimicry, regression, or fragmentation.

Purple — The Spiral Dynamics value system associated with belonging intelligence: tribal consciousness, animistic awareness, sacred ritual, and kinship bonds.

Red — The Spiral Dynamics value system associated with power intelligence: raw self-expression, heroic assertion, and the emergence of individual will.

Second Tier — In Spiral Dynamics, the value systems beginning with Yellow. Second Tier consciousness can see the entire Spiral, recognize every value system as a partial but necessary expression of human intelligence, and embrace rather than reject First Tier.

Somatic Inclusion — The body-based verification that inclusion has genuinely occurred at the level of lived, embodied, autonomically regulated experience. One of the Three Pillars.

Somatic Inclusion Mapping™ — A Luminous body-based assessment method that trains facilitators to read somatic signatures and gaps as primary diagnostic data for developmental inclusion.

Spiritual Bypassing — A term coined by John Welwood for the use of spiritual practices and beliefs to avoid dealing with painful feelings, unresolved wounds, and developmental needs. The most culturally sanctioned form of transcend-without-include.

Stage-Honoring Communication Architecture™ — Luminous frameworks for facilitating conversations that respect and address multiple developmental stages simultaneously without condescension or elitism.

Subject (Kegan) — In Robert Kegan's constructive-developmental theory, a structure of meaning-making that the person cannot see because they are embedded in it. What is subject runs the person without their awareness.

Systems Sensing Protocols™ — Luminous standards for interoperability across the ecosystem's frameworks, ensuring that proprietary terminology and assessment tools function coherently across volumes and applications.

Temporal Somatics™ — The Luminous framework for working with the body's lived relationship with developmental time — how the nervous system holds past stages, present capacity, and future potential simultaneously.

Transcend-and-Include — The developmental principle, central to Ken Wilber's Integral Theory, that healthy development enfolds and preserves everything that came before rather than replacing it. The foundational principle of this volume.

Trade Dress.
