Awakening to the Descent
TUNING FORK
Haiku:
Roots dip into dark—
light splits through leaves, then falls.
Descent is my breath.
Quote:
"Descend like a river into the sea of your own being." — Rumi [CITATION NEEDED: Verify attribution or source.]
PARABLE: The Oak and the Sky
Once, in an ancient forest, a young oak asked the eldest tree, "Why do you always reach for the sky when your roots go so deep into the earth?" The elder tree laughed, its branches swaying like wings. "My friend," it said, "the sky is but a reflection of my descent. I play with both—roots and leaves—and in that play, I grow."
STRUCTURE & TECHNIQUE: Daily Descent
Daily, begin by noting one moment of descent—whether it’s the setting sun, a deep inhale, or the weight of your feet on the earth. Over time, this becomes a practice: each day, descend further, not as an act of will, but as an alignment with what already is.
As you deepen, add layers:
- Observation: Note where descent feels natural and where resistance arises.
- Reflection: Journal about the quality of your resistance—does it feel like grasping or like a reflex?
- Embodiment: Practice movement that mirrors descent, such as walking backward or slow, controlled breathing.
Finally, embody descent fully—walking with your eyes closed, writing with your non-dominant hand—as play becomes the language of your being.
