Clearing Apertures: Pathways to Healing in Economics

Tuning Fork

Haiku:

Divine play unfolds,

through cleared apertures of mind—

reality dances.

Quote:

"Reality is not a thing to be mastered but a dance to be joined."

— Rumi, The Essential Rumi

Parable: The Dance of the Market

In a city where markets were rigid with rules, traders grew weary of stagnation. They built more regulations, thicker barriers, but the flow of goods remained sluggish. Then, one day, the elders of the market remembered an old proverb: "The market is not a cage but a dance." They did not remove all rules, but they removed the ones that claimed to know the path in advance. The dance resumed, and the city thrived—not because they willed it, but because they cleared the way.

Structure & Technique: Practices That Scale

  1. The Art of Non-Doing

Observe where systems resist or stagnate, then step back. Clearing is not about doing less; it’s about removing the wrong kind of action—the imposition of shape on what wants to flow.

  1. Remove the Choke Points

Identify artificial constraints—regulations, dogmas, metrics—that strangle the system’s vitality. These are the ‘dams’ that fragment reality’s natural dance.

  1. Dance with Metrics

Shift from measuring output (e.g., GDP) to measuring vitality (e.g., resilience, innovation). The best economics does not count steps but listens for the music beneath them.

Luminous Definition

[APERTURE]: A cleared space in perception, structure, or system where reality—unfiltered by habit, dogma, or rigid design—can flow without resistance. It is not a void but a threshold through which complexity breathes and self-organizes.

Three Appreciative Questions

  1. Where in your work or life have you noticed a system healing itself when constraints lifted?
  2. What are the ‘dams’ you’ve built—or kept up—to control the flow of reality, and how do they now strangle what you seek to nourish?
  3. How might you clear even one aperture this week, trusting that reality will dance through it in ways you cannot yet foresee?
