Parable: The River and the Fishermen
Once, a river flowed freely, its waters clear and swift, carrying nutrients to the land. Along its banks, fishermen cast their nets, but they did so with a strange ritual: each fisherman would whisper to the river before casting, asking for permission to take only what was abundant, what the river itself offered willingly.
One day, a new fisherman arrived, impatient and greedy. He saw the others’ rituals as wasting time and began to cast his net without care, depleting the waters. The other fishermen noticed this but said nothing, for they knew that if they spoke, the river might respond in ways they could not control.
Over time, the river’s flow changed. It no longer offered fish willingly; the waters grew murky, and the land around it withered. The new fisherman rejoiced, for he took more than ever before. But soon, his nets returned empty, and the river’s silence became a warning: the balance was broken.
The old fishermen sighed but said nothing, for they knew that some lessons could only be learned by experiencing the consequences of one’s own actions. The river had spoken—not in words, but in the way it carried itself.
